Girls Getting into Sport is a participation program run by the South Eastern Region Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) Youth and funded by Sports Without Borders which provided opportunities for refugee female students at Eumemmering Secondary College, Fountain Gate Campus. Participants in the program were all females in years 7 to 10 at school and represented a range of ethnic and religious backgrounds with the majority groups being Afghan, Sudanese and Iranian.
The aim of the program was to communicate the benefits of sport but also to build friendship networks and social skills. The program comprised a rotation of various sports including spinning, cycling ad Circuit at Casey Aquatic Centre, dancing, footy and tennis at the Fountain Gate Tennis Club, horseriding, a Bollywood dance lesson and soccer with the Noble park English language school students. Participants in the program formed a soccer team to play in the female competition at the Spring School Holiday Multicultural Soccer Tournament which was hosted by the MRC Youth Team, the City of Casey, the Centre for Multicultural Youth Issues and the City of Greater Dandenong.
